Digital lending platform Tala has announced details regarding its “Debt with Dignity” initiative, outlining operational standards focused on fee transparency, fair debt collection, and consumer protection in the Philippines.
Upfront Disclosures and Terms
According to a company statement, Tala requires full disclosure of loan fees, interest rates, and repayment schedules prior to loan acceptance. The platform also allows borrowers to select their own repayment dates to align with their specific income schedules or business cash flow.
In a 2025 global study conducted by research firm 60 Decibels, 99 percent of surveyed Tala customers reported experiencing no hidden or unexpected charges.
Fair Debt Collection Framework
Tala stated that its Global Debt Collection with Dignity Initiative enforces collection guidelines that protect customer privacy and prohibit harassment during debt recovery. The company noted that the framework is designed to assist national regulatory authorities in establishing industry standards for digital lending platforms.
“Democratized access and consumer protection must go hand-in-hand to achieve true financial inclusion,” said Moritz Gastl, President and General Manager of Tala Philippines.
The platform utilizes proprietary risk intelligence tools to assess borrowers who lack traditional collateral or formal credit histories.
