Coinbase has rolled out stock trading to all eligible users in the US, allowing customers to buy and sell US stocks and ETFs alongside crypto in a single account.
The expansion enables 24/5 trading on thousands of equities with zero commission through Coinbase Capital Markets. Users can fund trades with USD or USDC and purchase fractional shares starting at one dollar.
As part of the launch, Coinbase has partnered with Yahoo Finance to streamline asset discovery and execution. The integration allows users to move from researching an asset on Yahoo Finance to executing a trade on Coinbase with one click. Yahoo Finance will also incorporate real time data from Coinbase, while offering a one month trial of Coinbase One Basic to eligible users.
Coinbase said the rollout bridges traditional markets and digital assets under its Everything Exchange vision. The company plans to expand 24/5 trading to more equities in the coming months and is exploring tokenized stocks, which would enable onchain collateralization and instant payments backed by equity holdings.
Stock trading is currently limited to US residents through Coinbase Capital Markets brokerage accounts. The platform supports market and limit orders for US stocks and ETFs, with fractional trading available for certain assets during regular market hours.
Looking ahead, Coinbase also plans to broaden stock perpetuals outside the US, offering capital efficient exposure to US equities in select jurisdictions.
