Ethereum co-founder and ConsenSys CEO Joseph Lubin revealed in an interview with The Block that a Mask token linked to MetaMask could be launched sooner than expected.
“The Mask token is coming. It may come sooner than you would expect right now. And it is significantly related to the decentralization of certain aspects of the MetaMask platform.”

MetaMask is a self-custodial cryptocurrency wallet developed by ConsenSys. It allows users to store digital assets, manage private keys, send and receive tokens, and interact with decentralized applications (dApps) on Ethereum and other EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) compatible networks.
Recent developments include the introduction of MetaMask USD (mUSD), a stablecoin integrated directly into the wallet to enable easier holdings, spending, and trading within its ecosystem.
MetaMask has also strengthened its security reporting, addressing issues such as browser extension vulnerabilities, while adding new features like the “Linea network page” in its portfolio view to better showcase tokens, NFTs, and dApps built on Linea.
Linea is a layer-2 network developed by ConsenSys that uses zkEVM (zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine) technology. It is designed to lower transaction costs while maintaining strong security and full compatibility with Ethereum smart contracts.
Linea is directly integrated with MetaMask. Users can easily connect to the Linea Mainnet or testnets through preconfigured or custom RPC endpoints. Within MetaMask’s interface, a dedicated Linea network page is available under the Portfolio/Discover tab, surfacing information about dApps, tokens, NFTs, and events across the Linea ecosystem.
