During the onslaught of Super Typhoon Uwan, a Filipino-led startup created Bagyo.app, a platform that utilizes blockchain technology and integrates an AI agent called AERIS, aiming to assist its users every time a typhoon is approaching.

What is AERIS and Bagyo App?

Short for Autonomous Emergency Response Intel System, it is an AI Agent stack built
to coordinate support for Filipinos during natural emergencies like Typhoon Uwan.

Integrated into the Bagyo.app (https://www.bagyo.app/chat), the AI agent and the platform are built by New Prontera Corporation, a startup led by John Sedano, Jared Dillinger, El Bonuan, and other Filipino volunteers.

According to the founders, the idea of creating a platform with AI agent and blockchain integration emerged after they realized that their efforts and skills would be meaningless if they did not use them for good.

In a response to a BitPinas inquiry, Sedano shared that the team took 72 hours to build the platform. They used vibe coding, a method that employs AI to generate code.

“It was easy for us to really just give up on what is happening in the Philippines and the government, but when we decided that we can actually solve something, we could actually do something, we can actually change something with the skills that we have. It was a no-brainer. We wanted to build this app as soon as possible.”

Ongoing Plans

At the time this article was written, Sedano said that the platform can handle up to 2,000 users but assured that they are rebuilding a “more scalable” or a “production-ready” platform.

“Our goal is to be able to not only protect and save our countrymen, but also to provide and give confidence to people who want to donate and help the Philippines.”

The co-founder also expressed that their team is open for crypto donations, where users can donate to this web3 wallet:

Meanwhile, for those who want to donate in kind such food, water, medicines, and other physical materials, Sedano explained that they can talk to AERIS and the AI agent will be the one to tell them which evacuation center or relief ration center they can bring their donations to.

“The end goal is that we are able to build a system that is powered by AI agents and facilitated by humans with minimal supervision, especially when it comes to trust uh trustlessness and accountability. We want to use this data to create a more resilient Philippines.”

John Sedano, Co-Founder, New Prontera Corporation

And this is where blockchain technology is utilized, as donations will be anonymous while ensuring transparency.

Future Plans

The project will be open source, according to Sedano.

When the platform is fully launched, the team pledged to open its GitHub repository so other entities, including government agencies, around the world, can adapt its technicalities.

“There are multiple use cases for this. Not only in relief operations, but also in training personnel and also crisis management and other events. This is very helpful, and we hope that it will be put to good use.”
